Happy Reformation Day!

Today is Reformation Day, the day we celebrate the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. October 31 stands as the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg.

Does ‘all’ always mean all?

The short answer: No!
All we need to do to prove this is to look at Romans 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For […]

Why awareness of our sinfulness is so important

I read the following quote the other day from Captured By Grace by David Jeremiah.
“I remember planning an evening worship service several years ago. We would be coming to the Lord’s table for Communion and then having the sermon. I realized with alarm that my text was Romans 1:29-32: twenty-one words cataloguing the corruption and […]

Should the gospel contain words like “sin”, “hell” and “judgment”?

Todd Friel responds to one of Rob Bell’s Nooma videos.

The story occured at a gathering of youth workers where Tony Jones was speaking. He mentioned his disagreement with John Piper over the doctrine and a lady in the back asked, “yeah does this mean like male domination or […]

What is renewing your mind?

The ceiling fan kept blowing the pages of my Bible so I grabbed the closest thing I could find to serve as a weight. I thought the picture was a perfect example of our priorities at times.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, […]

Simplicity increases readability

From Writing With Style by John R. Trimble:
Use the fewest words possible and the simplest words possible. Occasionally, to be sure, the longer word will be the only right word: it may express the idea concisely, or contribute just the rhythm and texture wanted, or gratify your reader with the joy of surprise…But be warned: […]
